In this blog we talk about some of the usual websites and Facebook pages that we are using on a regular basis.

When you are in small business any assistance or knowledge sharing is welcome, especially when it is free. At Cameo Business Consulting and Bookkeeping we believe that knowledge is power and we constantly use a range of websites and Facebook pages that provide free guidance and information for our clients and our own business.

Here are a few we always find useful.

Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman

Led by Kate Carnell, former ACT Chief Minister, the ASBFEO’s role is to advocate on behalf of small and family owned enterprises. They provide assistance to small business if they have a dispute with other businesses and even government.

But this isn’t why we love this site. They have an awesome array of resources for business owners under their “My Business Health” portal. There is information and tools to assist with Cashflow Management, a handy Business Toolkit and access to Small Business Advisors. They also provide information regarding issues such as Bushfire Assistance, Cyber Security or Borrowing from a Fintech.

Fair Work Australia and the Fair Work Ombudsman

Most businesses that employ staff know about Fair Work Australia. The amount of information on the website is incredibly comprehensive and I must admit, sometimes a little difficult to find what you are looking for. There is a handy search feature and if you can’t find what you are looking for, you can always call or chat online.

The Fair Work Ombudsman Facebook page posts information on workplace rights and obligations. The posts are usually timely, e.g. related to issues that maybe in the press.

They post information related to both employees and employers. Recent posts that relate to Employers include information on Trainee and Apprentice Pay Rates, Notice on Termination and Public Holiday pay rates. These are all important topics that Employers should be aware of.

Business Queensland

Any state government Business website will have a range of useful information for Small Businesses, but I use the Business Queensland website regularly when assisting clients with business plans, strategies and other consulting.

There are guides, info kits, templates and tips across a broad range of topics such as Workplace Health and Safety, Risk Management, Exiting a Business and Intellectual Property.

I strongly recommend checking out these websites and following their Facebook pages. You never know when a small gem of information pops up in your feed that might make a world of difference to your business.
